Mediterranean dialogues “MED 2017 ” took place in Rome, Italy last week.
It brought together leading experts from all over the world.
The MED – Mediterranean dialogues are an annual high-level initiative promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the ISPI (Italian Institute for International Political Studies) in Rome. The event is aimed at developing a “positive agenda” for the Mediterranean by stimulating discussions and promoting new ideas, rethinking traditional approaches and solving common problems both at the regional and international levels.
Rome MED 2017 is based on four main principles: general prosperity, general security, migration and civil society and culture.
The discussions are meant to analise problems and make proposals for expanding economic cooperation, overcoming regional rivalries and conflicts and ensuring new stimulus for sustainable development to be put in place.
The UAE delegation took part in MED 2017 last Thursday. The theme was set to find the ways of joint cooperation in achieving stability in crisis areas.
The UAE’s delegation was headed by Ahmed Abdul Rahman Al Jarman, Assistant Minister for Human Rights and International Law, and included Saqr Nasser Al Raisi, UAE Ambassador to Italy.
Al Jarman called Italy take an active part in Expo 2020 Dubai as both countries have common aspirations of its theme “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future.”
He noted that the UAE was eager to cooperate with Italy to make an exceptional event that demonstrates the abilities of the UAE and Italy in spheres of research and development, innovation in renewable energy, transport, environment, technology and education.
The Italian representative valued greately the Emirati-Italian strategic partnershis. He further expressed Italy’s desire to share its experience with the UAE to organise a unique expo that connects Milano Expo 2015 with Expo 2020 Dubai.
