Thanks to the desire of Dubai to provide its citizens and residents with world-class services, the city has become an attractive place for expatriates and one of the best cities in the world in terms of quality of life.
Due to large investments in public infrastructure, Dubai is becoming one of the best places on the planet for life.
Of all the major infrastructure projects in Dubai over the past 20 years, there is one that particularly reflects its desire to become a city for everyone. Metro Dubai, opened in 2009, is now recognized as one of the most successful public transportation projects in the world. For the first seven years of operation of the metro, it was used by almost 830 million passengers – it is almost 120 million a year. And in 2017 this figure was close to 200 million passengers a year.
Previously, Dubai did not have a well-developed public transportation system, and the popularity of the Dubai Metro, with a length of 75 km, demonstrates the importance of major public infrastructure projects for the rapid transformation of Dubai into one of the world’s best cities for life.
In 2017, according to the survey on the quality of life conducted by the authoritative consulting company Mercer, Dubai received the highest rating among all cities in the Middle East and Africa. The consulting firm Mercer studied 231 cities in the world to help companies determine financial compensation for their employees around the world. Research criteria include health care, education, crime rates, transport development and policy perspectives. In the global ranking, Dubai took 74th place. The compilers of the survey noted the city’s developed public infrastructure, high level of security, economic power, as well as a first-class health and education system.
In the same rating, it took 51st place in terms of the quality of urban infrastructure. Dubai received high scores in such areas as schooling, public services and transportation, recreation and quality / availability of housing.
Dubai also took the top line of the Global Livingability Ranking 2017, compiled by the Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU). Dubai was named the best city in the Middle East and Africa in terms of quality of life. In addition, the company awarded the city the highest assessment in terms of the pace of improvement in the quality of life.
Not surprisingly, this factor attracts to Dubai people from all over the world who are looking for a prestigious job or wanting to improve their standard of living.
The growing popularity of Dubai among expatriates is reflected in the rapid growth of the city’s population (which number by 2030 should reach 5 million people), as well as in the number of foreign investors in the real estate market of the emirate.
Another important discovery made during the study was the recognition of 76% of the expats in Dubai that they feel more secure in the emirate than in their homeland. And 68% of the respondents said that they would advise Dubai to other expats who are thinking about moving here.
According to the Dubai Land Department, out of the $ 77.6 billion invested in the emirate’s real estate in 2017, the share of foreign investors was more than $ 15 billion. The largest group of foreign investors are citizens of the countries of the Persian Gulf who bought property in Dubai worth $ 10 billion.
