Large developing countries in the world are now actively combating counterfeit products and also violations in the field of international trade. United Arab Emirates are among the leading countries involved in combating piracy, smuggling goods.
As part of its ability to expand trade, the UAE is strictly protecting trademarks by combating counterfeit products.
The Department of Economic Development of Dubai has closed about 5 thousand accounts in social networks and 30 sites that distribute counterfeit products. This step was implemented as part of the plan to combat the spread of counterfeit goods and is aimed at eliminating unscrupulous merchants in the network.
According to representatives of the Department of Economic Development, this step is aimed at protecting brands and maintaining the Dubai rating as a leading shopping center.
“Today, accounts in social networks are used by many fraudsters who sell counterfeit products,” said Ibrahim Behzad, head of the Intellectual Property Rights Division in the Department of Economic Development.
He stated that his team will protect the business reputation of Dubai.
“Our employees work around the clock, track accounts in social networks and in electronic platforms used to promote and sell counterfeit goods,” the head stated.
The UAE takes the issue of intellectual property protection very seriously, and consider it necessary to unite efforts and introduce innovations, as well as develop their ideas to create a competitive atmosphere.
Mr. Behzad also noted that there can find everything: bags, perfumes, watches, cosmetics, etc., among counterfeit goods sold online.
Also, the Economic Development Department closed stores and warehouses selling fake goods from the counter.
It is worthy to note, that in 2017, fake products worth 1 billion dirhams ($ 270 million) were confiscated in Dubai.
If you accidentally purchased a fake product, or you became aware of the distribution of such goods, call the Consumer Rights Support Center, or write to the service accounts in Instagram and Twitter.
It should be added that the UAE is recognized as the most successful country in the Middle East and Africa in the fight against trafficking in banned goods and the 3d country in the world in terms of conditions impeding the demand and consumption of illegal goods.
The UAE government also launched the Federal Law on Commercial Fraud, according to which manufacture, sale, import, export, re-export, display or purchase of counterfeit products are regarded to be an act of commercial fraud and are subject to serious fines.
The UAE is now an economically stable developing region, and many countries want to develop trade relations with it. Dubai is developing construction, and the flow of tourists is increasing. All this is due to a wise economic policy.
