The new route, passing through the mountains, halved the travel time from Sharjah to Khorfakkan – a place on the Gulf of Oman, which is popular with tourists.
On April 14, the ruler of Sharjah, His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qassimi solemnly opened a new highway that connected Sharjah and Khorfakkan, a small town on the Gulf of Oman, and one of the Sharjah enclaves in the territory of the Emirate of Fujairah.
The four-lane highway of 89 km passes through the mountainous terrain. Thanks to the new highway, the path from Sharjah to Khorfakkan was halved – to 45 minutes.
Al Rafisah Dam, recreational center, was opened along with the road last weekend. The project has been in development for more than 14 years.
Khorfakkan is a resort town on the coast of the Gulf of Oman, on the border with Fujairah. The name means “Bay of two jaws”, as the city is located in a bay between two mountain capes, going into the sea.
Khorfakkan is famous for its white sandy beaches, fertile strawberry plantations and banana groves. Pure blue water and golden beaches, as well as the amazing flora and fauna of the underwater world, attracts diving and fishing fans.
The Khorfakkan Embankment deserves a separate story. This is a real promenade zone, which makes an impression.
There is a well-equipped public beach with different cafes, and Arabic and fast food (for example, the famous “Golden Fork” network) at the embankment.
And on the embankment there are always some horse and sport “actions”. And on weekends, families gather here to have fun on picnics.
Here you can visit the diving center. The embankment is very green, neat, you can spend time both: on the sand and on the grass. Shopping centers, banks and exchangers are also available. There are several mosques and even a police post. The promenade of Khorfakkan is a popular tourist place.
Although Khorfakkan is a port city, the water here in the Indian Ocean (the Gulf of the Arabian Sea of Oman) is clean.
Khorfakkan is a paradise for lovers of beach holidays. It’s good to just rest for a few days on the sea in complete relaxation. Here you can simply swim and sunbathe or windsurf, go water skiing, watch the underwater inhabitants, swimming with a mask.
The visitors can have a pleasant time, walking at local parks located both: within the city and in its surroundings, as well as visiting the dilapidated fort, the museum of ancient settlements, the mosque and the palace of the emir.
