Yoga for better physical and mental health: Mr. Modi
Inaugurating International Yoga Day 2016 celebrations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people this morning at Capitol Complex in Chandigarh, India, to embrace yoga for better physical and mental health. He said that Yoga has become a mass movement like no other in the world.
He urged thousands of yoga enthusiasts participating in the event to make yoga a part of their life. “Just as the mobile phone is now a part of your life, make yoga too a part of your life.”, said Mr. Modi.
Here in UAE, the International Yoga Day was observed on last Saturday at the Dubai World Trade Centre with hundreds of people performing yoga with noted India Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev.
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared the International Yoga Day on December 11, 2014, and it was internationally recognized by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014 following the proposal of Indian Prime Minister Narendra. Mr. Modi in his UN Address suggested the date of June 21, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares special significance in many parts of the world. While addressing the UN session in 2014, he said “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition. This tradition is 5000 years old. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and the nature. By changing our lifestyle and creating consciousness, it can help in well being. Let us work towards adopting an International Yoga Day.”
